    Who Can Apply?

Although recommended for medical staff during the first or second year of specialist training in those specialties regularly involved in the management of trauma, such as Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia and Surgery, all registered doctors will be considered.

    Course Aims/Brief Outline

The course teaches a simple systematic approach to the management of trauma patients through inter-active tutorials, skills teaching and simulated patient management scenarios.

    Assessment/Course Completion Requirement

There is a pre-course multiple choice questionnaire (MCQ), however it is not considered in the final assessment, but rather as an indicator of preparation for the course.

There are continual assessments throughout the course.  For successful completion of the course candidates must:

  • attend every lecture, skill station and demonstration
  • be on time for and successfully complete every session
  • successfully complete the moulage test on day 3 of the course
  • successfully complete the post course MCQ with a score of 80% or above

The ATLS Student manual will be mailed to candidates

prior to the course. Whilst the lectures are

comprehensive, it is not possible to cover all the

material in the manual during the course.

Therefore, to gain maximum benefit from the course,

it is essential that candidates have thoroughly read

and assimilated the information contained in the manual.

Candidates will be allocated a faculty mentor who will be available throughout the course to answer any queries and help out with any problems which may arise.
