Emergency First Aid 

 

It is recommended that managers undertake a first aid risk assessment to identify which type of first aider and how many are required in the workplace in order to provide adequate cover for differing shift patterns, relief for holidays and sickness etc. 

 

Who Can Apply?

For those who are required to act as an ‘appointed person’ and need to reach a

level of competence in the theory and practice of first aid in order to assist in managing

illness in the workplace.

 

Course Aims/Brief Outline

  • Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

  • Primary and secondary surveys

  • How and when to get help

  • Seizures and convulsions

  • Dealing with unconsciousness

  • Recovery position

  • Basic life support procedures

  • Hygiene and contamination

  • Role of first aider with an AED

  • Choking

  • Bleeding

  • Dressings and bandages

  • Shock

  • Burns and scolds

  • head, bone & spinal injuries

  • Heart Attack

  • Anaphylaxis
